Pregnancy and Osteopathy

What is osteopathy and how can it help during pregnancy?

=> More infos

Osteopathy is a manual therapeutic approach which aims to relieve functional ailments such as lower back pain, hip pain, venous congestion and digestive problems. It helps to harmonize the body structures modified by pregnancy and to prepare the body for childbirth.

What changes occur during pregnancy and how can osteopathy help relieve associated disorders?

During pregnancy, women experience significant physical and emotional changes. Hormones influence their body and psyche, while the growth of the fetus requires adjustments in the abdominal space. Organs, nerves, blood vessels and the diaphragm adapt, and ligaments, muscles, fascia and the pelvic floor become more elastic.

However, these adaptations can lead to various disorders such as back pain, coccyx and pubic pain, feeling of heavy legs, fatigue, headaches, neck tension, muscle pain, as well as digestive problems such as nausea, heartburn and constipation. Other symptoms, such as edema and carpal tunnel syndrome, may also occur.

Osteopathy offers techniques to relieve this discomfort. By working on the mobility of joints, muscles, fascia and viscera, osteopathy helps reduce pain, improve general well-being and support future mothers throughout this period of transformation.

When should I consult an osteopath during my pregnancy?

It is recommended to consult an osteopath trained in obstetrics in the event of discomfort or symptoms. At the end of pregnancy (8th month), it is advisable to consult to check the good mobility of the structures involved in childbirth: the pelvis, lumbar, hips, perineum and abdominal and back-lumbar muscles.

Are osteopathy sessions safe for the fetus?

Osteopathy sessions are adapted to each stage of pregnancy and do not present any major risk for the fetus.

What are the common symptoms that osteopathy can treat during pregnancy?

Osteopathy can help treat:

  • Lower back pain, back pain, pain in the coccyx (coccygodynia), in the pubis (pubalgia), in the hips (coxalgia), buttock pain.
  • Diaphragmatic tensions and sensations of respiratory limitation.
  • Tensions in the lower abdomen.
  • Pain or tension in the perineum.
  • Nausea, heartburn, constipation.
  • General fatigue and sleep disorders.
  • Pelvic congestion: feeling of heavy legs, edema, hemorrhoidal disorders.
  • Headaches, tension in the neck.

Does osteopathy replace traditional medical care?

No, osteopathy does not replace traditional medical monitoring, but it is part of a holistic approach aimed at the well-being of the mother and child.

Can osteopathy help after childbirth?

Yes, osteopathy is beneficial after childbirth to restore postural balance, relieve pain and promote rapid recovery.

gogniat@osteo7-7.ch
Born in 1980 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. After passing her baccalaureate and travelling at length, she left the snowy lands of home to start the School of Osteopathy in Belmont-sur-Lausanne. These five years of study were rich in discoveries and full of meaning for her. The functioning of the body, the way to regain health and the vision of osteopathy which considers the human being as a whole, have fascinated her. After graduating in 2005 and practising for two years as an osteopathic assistant, she opened her own practice in La Chaux-de-Fonds where she worked for eight years. She then founded her family in Lausanne, and in 2016, she came to work with the Osteo 7/7 team, where she is very happy. She has a rather gentle approach to her work, combining the techniques she learned during her studies with those acquired during her many continuing education courses. Among others: • Functional emergency techniques (with Robert Rousse) • Tissue approach to osteopathy (with Pierre Tricot) Postural concept osteopathy (with Philippe Toussirot) Global reflex techniques Fascial approach to osteopathy. (with Serge Paoletti) For many years she has also practised and taught yoga and mindfulness meditation. These two techniques help her to deepen her perceptions every day and thus improve the quality of her treatments through greater presence and a better ability to listen and concentrate. Book online

Esteban Weil

Stagiaire CRS
weil@osteo7-7.ch
Osteopath graduated from the Sutherland Osteopathic College in Strasbourg since June 2024. Born in 1991, passionate about motorcycles and sports, an epicurean in food and spirit, and curious about new discoveries. I am a bringer of change and do not shy away from challenges. Osteopathy is a second life, a choice. I had to abandon everything to start again. Originally from Alsace, with experience in corporate security and risk prevention, but also around ten years as a volunteer firefighter. My previous experiences have allowed me to develop listening skills and the ability to adapt while ensuring effective continuous improvement. Knowing how to question oneself is essential, it allows us to move forward in a fairer and stronger direction, but above all to do it together. A good therapeutic relationship with you is essential. A relationship of trust and transparency for quality support. I use a range of techniques adaptable to each patient, ranging from myofascial to structural, visceral or cranial treatment. Knowing the importance of progressing and training in order to increase the possibilities and effectiveness of my sessions, it is not a question of remaining on what I have learned, but of evolving into new practices. While waiting for more in-depth training in the pediatric field, I prefer to avoid children under 3 years old for the moment. Book online Make an appointment
