Osteopathy and ENT
ENT Osteopathy aims to manually relieve disorders linked to the nose-throat-ears sphere.
=> More infos
The ENT sphere (otolaryngology) brings together functions related to hearing (inner, middle and outer ears), nasal breathing (nose, sinuses) and the throat (larynx, tonsils).
What are the objectives of ENT Osteopathy?
The main objective is to restore the elasticity of cranial tissues, cervical and mandibular structures in order to restore the balance of vascular, nervous and lymphatic exchanges by means of mainly cranial techniques (functional or structural).
What disorders can ENT Osteopathy treat?
This method is effective in relieving:
- Sinusitis, ear infections, rhinitis, pharyngitis, sore throats,
- Dizziness, tinnitus,
- Sleep apnea,
- Obstructions of the tear ducts,
- Follow-ups during orthodontic treatments,
- Occlusion disorders, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
Who can benefit from ENT Osteopathy?
ENT osteopathy is suitable for all ages, from infants to the elderly.
How does an ENT Osteopathy consultation take place?
The session begins with a history to understand your symptoms. The osteopath then carries out a clinical examination, assesses the mobility, muscular tension and flexibility of the tissues in the area concerned, and in a holistic approach, of other structures that may impact the ENT sphere.
The osteopath uses cranial, functional and structural techniques to restore mobility and improve function. Your participation (breathing, eye or jaw movements) may also be requested.
What biomechanical aspects are considered in ENT treatment?
- Cervical mobility: influences swallowing and the position of the mandible, essential for chewing.
- The mobility of the larynx and the hyoid bone, connected to the cervical vertebrae, can affect swallowing and speaking.
- Dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), connected to the ear, can cause pain radiating into the ear or occlusion disorders.
- The sinuses (maxillary, frontal) and facial bones play a crucial role in drainage.
- The outer, middle and inner ear, connected to the temporal bone, play a role in hearing and balance.
